DIY credit repair means you dispute errors on your own credit reports instead of paying a company to do it for you. Our toolkit gives you the dispute letters, a step-by-step action plan, deadline tracking, and video training, so you know exactly what to send, where to send it, and when to follow up.
Yes. Under the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act, you have the right to dispute any information you believe is inaccurate or incomplete, directly with the credit bureaus and with the company that reported it. Filing a dispute yourself is free.
No one can legally remove accurate, timely information from your credit report. The disputes in our toolkit are for errors: balances that are wrong, accounts you do not recognize, duplicate entries, unauthorized inquiries, and late payments that were reported incorrectly. Be wary of any company that promises to erase accurate history.
Credit bureaus generally have 30 days to investigate a dispute and respond. Many people see the first changes within one to two months, but it depends on how many items you dispute and whether escalation rounds are needed. Our dashboard tracks every 30-day deadline and reminds you when it is time for the next step.
Round 1 is a standard dispute asking the bureau to verify the item. If it comes back verified but you still believe it is wrong, Round 2 requests the method of verification and adds supporting detail. Round 3 escalates further, citing the specific statute and, where appropriate, notifying the furnisher directly. Each round builds on the last.
Starter includes two letter types, Round 1 letters, report upload and account tracking, monthly reminders, and the Getting Started training. Pro unlocks all eight letter types, all three escalation rounds, unlimited letter generation, and saved letter history. Current pricing is in the plans section above.
You can get free reports from all three bureaus at AnnualCreditReport.com. If you also want your scores and an easy PDF to upload, our affiliate partner ScoreIQ offers a $1 trial. Note that the trial converts to a paid membership unless you cancel.
